The process of consulting with employees can be enhanced if mental health awareness education precedes psychosocial hazard identification and development of risk controls. Many employees have limited understanding of mental health, with a large percentage viewing ‘mental health’ as synonymous with ‘mental illness’. Without education therefore, it is likely employees will provide limited or distorted input in regards to identification of psychological hazards and how these can be addressed.
As all employees can be affected by workplace stress, ALL employees should be provided with training in order to understand mental health and prevent stress related illnesses. This can be accomplished by having employees complete the “Mental Health Awareness” training within the FlourishDx software platform. The course covers the continuum of mental health and equips employees with increased knowledge for self-care and improved literacy to participate meaningfully in a risk management processes consistent with ISO 45003.
